EARLY LIFE
Anurag Kashyap is known as the “Man of Modern Indian Cinema”. Anurag Kashyap was born in 1972 Gorakhpur, Uttar-Pradesh India. He went to Green School of Dehradun for his primary education and later moved to “The Scindia School” for his secondary education. His fellow students belonged from elite culture families of India and preferred speaking in English rather than Hindi (mother tongue of Indians). However, Anurag found it difficult to speak in english, hence he used to spend hours in library to learn English language. This was the time when Anurag’s interest in literature developed when he read many books of Hindi and English Literature. He also read books of Russian literature which were translated in Hindi. He was an enthusiastic writer and was able to write hundreds and hundreds of short stories in a very short span of time. Unfortunately, no story could get publish due to the deep content Anurag wrote. And by deep I meant the harsh reality of society around him. He got graduated from Hansraj college in Dehli.
THEATRE
His friend introduced him to theatre plays in Dehli where he performed in many stage and street plays successfully. Later his friends suggested Anurag to go and watch all the films being shown in the film festival, where Anurag saw almost 50 films in few days. Bicycle Thieves A 1948|Italian Film Directed by : Vittorio De Sica was the film that made a very strong impact on Anurag where he thought filmmaking is the only way he can express his ideas as he always regarded himself as an introvert.
STRUGGLE IN MUMBAI
June 3 1993 he arrived at Mumbai, India. He joined Prithvi Theatre ( a local theatre in Mumbai) by serving as a waiter inside the café of theatre. Gradually he managed to get into theatre acting while he was working in the café. Back then in India, satellite Television was newly introduced and required someone who could write scripts for the daily soaps. Anurag found himself lucky as he was an enthusiastic writer and used to write many episodes in just one day. He never asked for money nor credits and later in the industry his work paid off. He was called by many producers offering him good deal of money and for quite a time he served as a writer for many Indian serial and films.
ANURAG’S FIRST FILM
Anurag’s career took a major turn when he decided to direct him first film Satya that paid him only 10,000 inr per month. Anurag said “I GAVE THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE TO THAT FILM. THOSE ARE THE CHOICES ONE NEEDS TO MAKE IN LIFE”. Satya was a box office hit and got critically acclaimed and from then Anurag made himself recognized in the competitive market of Indian Film Industry. He later directed the film “Black Friday” which was a huge success in Indian Film Industry. He himself bought DVDs of Black Friday, took them to USA and distributed it to the DVD stores so that people from different race and ethnicity could see his work and promote Indian films in their country.
Anurag Kashyap Started to get recognized when he directed Gangs of wasseypur which was again a box office success and actor Nawazuddin Siddique career who played a major role in the movie, tasted success after his wonderful performance.

FILMMAKING TECHNIQUES
From the very beginning Anurags ideology towards filmmaking is to shoot a film in the minimum budget. If we look at his work Anurag prefers on shooting original location to save money and time. He believes that a good story must not depend upon any fancy or expensive equipment and as a talented director he is able to pull off box office hit films in minimum budget. His crew consist of very few people.
SCRIPTS PREFERENCES & GENRE
Anurag unlike other bollywood directors who focuses on providing audiences with romantic/comedy movies, prefers on stories that are worth telling. His genre is a mixture of suspense/action and portraying graphical content to what he calls raw Indian films which shows the culture of real india and society. He also directed “Gangs of Wassypur” a gangster genre which was a huge box office hit. Anurag Kashyap movies are mostly R-rated (adult content) and his films get stuck in the censor board due to the content produced.
ANURAG IN MODERN CINEMA
In Modern Cinema Anurag is recognized as the “Art Cinema Men” and many Hollywood directors also being inspired by his work and efforts. He likes to experiment in his movies to create content which separates him from other Directors. He made his own place with hard work and his passion towards storytelling and filmmaking. He continues to produce and direct outstanding movies and produced controversial series on Netflix “Sacred Games”. He is moving with time and never he let anything to hold him back when it comes to telling a story no matter how graphic it is.
