Akhri Khat (last letter) is a emotional/drama based short movie starring Mujtaba Lodhi, Kashan Baig and Ehtisham who plays the same role portraying different ages to a character Khalid who writes letter to his mother who’s not around.  Akhri Khat was shot on multiple locations (indoor and outdoor). The frame opens up in a study room where a boy aged 12 years old in writing a letter. His excitement of writing letter to his mother and expecting a feedback at the same time can be seen by the uneasy expressions on the actors face. His expressions are supported by the voiceover of him reading what he is writing in the letter. He is away from his family in Canada where he lives with a relative. After the divorce of his parents he had to leave the country as per the parents choice to give him a better life. However, being surrounded by luxuries he is not happy. The person he misses the most is his mother and how he never liked to leave her from the start. He ends up his letter expecting an early feedback from his mother leaves.

In the other sequence the frame opens up in a car where Khalid who has aged 20 now and moved to Dubai UAE for work purposes. It has been so many years of him writing countless letter to his mom but never getting a single reply. He’s been out of contact with her mother and how again he is writing something to his mother. The voiceover of him starts where again he is writing a letter to his mom. This time what he expresses in the letter can be seen in frame. He explains how careless he still is and how he never keeps his room tidy. He complains that his friends taunt him on writing letter in smart phone era but he smiles and leaves because it’s hard for him to explain on his way of communicating with his mom. He again ends up his letter expecting a reply from his mother soon and to make his mother more curious to respond he creates a question mark by telling that he wants to announce good news in the other letter.

Last Sequence is when Khalid has moved to Pakistan after decades. He is now 47 and has 2 kids (Aayat and Ali). He is now in front of his mother questioning and complaining how she never gave a single reply to his letters. He’s is now going to read the last letter to his mother in front of her. He reads it out loud and expects a reply once again this time but sadly it reveals that he is standing in front of her grave. Khalid’s mother passed away right after he was sent to Canada. He got to know this when he moved to Dubai but felt inner peace when he talked to his mother through writing those letters. He misses his mom and will always love her and keep communicating with her in the same way.
